The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is hands down my favorite sale of the year. I don’t know what it is but I seriously countdown the days like a kid to Christmas! Typically sales to get rid of old season inventory to make way for new pieces. The cool thing about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is that there are hundreds of markdowns on new season items. Additionally, designers and staple items that rarely go on sale are available for a discount – think Stuart Weitzman, A.L.C., Cult Gaia, etc. Here are my 3 keys to getting the most out of shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale:
1) Identify gaps in your wardrobe. Now is a great time to stock up on quality basics. If you don’t have a favorite t-shirt, a nice wool coat, luxe cashmere knits, or long lasting leather goods now is the time to stock up and save.
2) Set a budget. Shopping sales is extremely beneficial but can result in overindulgence if you’re not disciplined. Lay out a plan to make smart choices for your closet and wallet.
3) Stick to the plan. You’ve determined what you need and how much you’re willing to spend. Now stick with it! I always ask myself “Do I have to have this?”. If the answer is no I leave it and if the answer is yes I grab it.
For sizing reference I’m 5’8″ and typically wear an XS/S in tops, 0/2 in dresses, 25/26 in denim, and S in outerwear. TTS means true to size.
Review: I saw this last year but wasn’t quick enough to grab it. I’m so glad I finally got my hands on it. This coat is more of a super heavy cardigan than a coat so it’s perfect for fall layering. The Vince Cardigan Coat is super easy to dress up with heels or dress down with athletic wear. I love the camel color on this one but it also comes in grey.
Review: The Rag & Bone jeans were hands down my favorite of the sale this year. The cut, the wash, the material – everything about these jeans feels trendy yet timeless. They are nonstretch and have a 90s/vintage look. This is a great length for wearing with booties in the fall and winter.
Review: Every year I stock up on cashmere knits during the sale. It’s the best way to get high quality staples at a fraction of the price. This one is under $100 and you will wear it all season long. Trust me! I have this one in 3 colors and the cashmere pullover in 2.
Size: I typically go with an XS/S if I want to layer under tailored blazers and moto jackets. For more casual, oversized looks I tend to size up to a M.
Fit: TTS (size up for an oversized look, size down for a tailored look)
Review: The most versatile blazer of the sale. The fit, pattern, and fabric are perfect for the office with trousers and flats but can also be worn with distressed jeans and sneakers on the weekend. Not only is this one the perfect balance of casual and elevated, it’s also incredibly soft and feels way more luxe than the price would suggest.
Review: Another work to weekend staple is this long belted coat. It’s so soft and brings polish to even the most casual outfits. I love the option to tie the waist for a super chic look or leave it undone for a more laidback look.
Size: M (I sized up to wear over thick and oversized sweaters)
Review: These joggers are iconic. They sell out almost every year and for good reason. The fabric is so soft that you feel like you could melt in them. They come in 3 different colors but I grabbed black for ultimate versatility.
Review: Leather shorts are perfect for transitioning into fall. I love these because they have an elastic waistband, functional pockets, and they’re a flattering length without being too short.
Review: Fall is simply not fall without a shacket. I love that they feel like outerwear but are a bit more fun than a typical jacket. This was my favorite one from the sale this year because the pattern and color way are perfect for my neutral fall wardrobe. It has functional pockets and snaps in front for easy wear.
Review: A great pair of black pants that can be worn to work are always worth investing in. These ones from Spanx are incredibly flattering and comfortable yet still look polished and chic. They are so versatile and can easily be worn year round.
Review: By far one of my most worn closet staples is a genuine leather jacket. The price point is quite the splurge but the cost per wear is near nothing. I love throwing mine on with sweats to elevate a travel look, with a feminine dress to add some edge, or with a sweater and jeans for a cool and casual look. The outfit possibilities are endless! The material will last forever and actually keep you warm unlike synthetic alternatives.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, not the sound of sleigh bells, but the sound of doorbells ringing with packages from the Nordstrom Sale! This is undoubtedly my favorite sale of the year because you get discounts on NEW pieces and items that rarely get marked down. I like to get a mix of high quality staples like cashmere, wool, leather, and premium denim with some super affordable trendy pieces mixed in!
