A capsule wardrobe is a mini wardrobe consisting of items that mix and match to maximize outfits and eliminate excess. It’s often made up of timeless, high quality, neutral pieces. The goal is to create a collection of items that make it easy to get dressed everyday. You don’t have to think about what “goes” together because every piece in your wardrobe is highly curated and will pair well with anything in your capsule.
Why Consider a Capsule Wardrobe?
This is a great solution if you always feel like you “have nothing to wear”. When you minimize your choices and ensure each item is versatile, you will always have something to wear without repeating outfits often.
My Capsule Wardrobe
One thing you’ll notice about my capsule wardrobe is that it transcends the office and the weekend. I really wanted to highlight pieces that will ensure you’re stylish at work and also after hours. I’ve chosen mostly neutrals to ensure you can pair any top with any bottom and any shoe and have a fantastic outfit that you look and feel great in. Each of these pieces I personally own and love. The quality and longevity has been tested and approved by me! With that in mind some of the exact pieces are a bit more expensive than my typical shares. My philosophy is to splurge on items I’m going to wear and rewear to ensure they last a long time and that I keep enjoying them. If you’re looking to do a capsule on a budget, I’ve included similar items at more affordable price points that will achieve the same result. You do not have to spend a ton of money to look great this season, but if you’re looking to invest in timeless, quality staples this is a great place to start.

For sizing reference I’m 5’8″ and typically wear an XS/S in tops, 0/2 in dresses, 25/26 in denim, and S in outerwear. TTS means true to size.
I also curated a fall capsule wardrobe last year and many of these same styles have been reused and reworn year after year. Check out my 2021 Fall Capsule Wardrobe here.

Remember that if you are shrinking down your closet to make way for more versatile pieces you will in turn be putting a lot more wear and tear on your clothes than you would otherwise. That’s why it’s important to spend wisely and invest in quality staples that you can wear and re-wear time and time again. Many of these styles are an investment, but I can attest that they are worth every single penny. Some of these items I’ve had for years now and they still look brand new. Each piece is essential to developing a wardrobe that is versatile and effortlessly chic, whether you’re adopting a capsule wardrobe or simply looking to elevate your closet staples.
