Now that we’re heading into the autumn months, wedding season is starting to ramp back up again. And you know what that means – it’s time to pick an outfit! When I think about dressing for a wedding I think about 3 main things: practicality, comfort, and style.
Practicality: This probably goes without saying, but it doesn’t make sense to wear 5 inch heels to a beach wedding. Similarly wearing flats is likely not appropriate for a black tie ceremony. Always consider the venue and the time of day when choosing a dress. Opt for lighter colors and flowy silhouettes for daytime and outdoor ceremonies and stick with darker colors and more form fitting dresses for evening events.
Comfort: If it can’t be danced in then it’s not for me. That’s my rule on comfort and it is hasn’t let me down yet.
Style: After over a year of wearing leggings and joggers 2021 weddings are the perfect opportunity to go all out. Don’t be afraid to show your personality with your outfit option. Add some fun shoes, get glitzy with accessories, and have fun! Just remember that whatever you choose to wear should not upstage the bride. If you have to question it, don’t wear it!
It can be hard to find the perfect dress on a budget. Luckily Nordstrom has a ton of great options for weddings at affordable price points. Today I’m rounding up some of my favorite fall wedding guest dress that are perfect for cocktail attire and all under $150!

You can never go wrong with a LBD! The satin material and high leg slit make it interesting yet sophisticated. It’s easy to dress up by adding a statement earring and a fun heel. The straps are adjustable and cross in the back and you can wear a regular strapless bra – that’s a win win. I’m wearing an XS.
This wine colored maxi dress is the perfect option for a fall wedding. It is a true wrap so it’s extremely flattering. The movement is gorgeous and looks great in photos, but be careful with the slit. Also keep in mind this color is a very popular bridesmaid color for fall weddings. Make sure to check with a bridesmaid to ensure you aren’t wearing a similar color to avoid looking like a bridesmaid wannabe. The straps cross in that back and are adjustable. I’m wearing an XS.
If you’re looking for a more formal option that still has some character this is it. Website photos do not do this dress justice. I ended up tucking the strap on one side for added edge and I love how that looks! The top fits perfectly but it was tugging a bit in the mid-section. I’m wearing an XS.
This dusty blue dress is perfect for a beach wedding or an early afternoon outdoor ceremony. The color is stunning but because it’s lighter it will fare best for a more casual wedding location. This one also has amazing movement, is extremely comfortable, and fits true to size. I’m wearing an XS.
If this dress doesn’t scream fall I don’t know what does. Velvet? Check. Mustard Yellow? Check. The cross front halter really makes a statement so this dress is the ultimate option for the trendsetter. Let this dress do all the talking by pairing it with nude heels and understated jewelry. It fits true to size but is a little loose on me in the bust. I’m wearing an XS.
There’s simply nothing more classic than a crepe sheath dress. This one is under $150 and unbelievably flattering. The high neckline and low hemline make this dress a great option for a church or country club setting where modesty is required. The fit is meant to hug your curves so get your normal size. I’m wearing an XS.
